I had read so much about the show, 'Downton Abbey' on PBS, and the knits and costumes, so I had to go and check it out.  Settling down to watch from the beginning - it started from two years ago - I also picked up the Casablanca Cascade yarn that I had finished winding up and started a new project.  As if I needed another WIP lying around the house ...

. . . . I thought this scarf was soooo pretty and when I read the instructions and realized how simple the stitch was, I fell even more in love and know I have to make this at some point. Thought I'd reblog this in case any of you liked it too! Enjoy! Sama.

So the order for 3 bridesmaidsjewelry sets is finally complete (after over a year of designing and tweaking it until it was perfect for the bridesmaids)! They are black pebbles hand picked/selected from the tributaries of the BC rockies and hand wrapped in red wires, red glass beads, and red swarovski beads. I’m so excited for the bride and her family and friends to see the sets in real life (probably next week) and really hope they like them!

I shipped it all off today with a fun little surprise set for the bride (I’m not worried about her reading this post, but in case she does, oops I’m sorry I ruined the surprise!) and some complementary henna stencils (I hope she finds them useful, but if not I’m sure she can find someone else who will as henna is becoming so popular these days). I shall post photos of the bride’s fun jewelry set later but in the meanwhile check out the 3 sets for the bridesmaids:

I made a bunch of BC Rockies wire-wrapped rock pendants a while ago (early last year I think – there are more photos in a previous jewelry blog post) for my sister’s friends (this is one of the friend’s daughter or granddaughter  I think) and was sent these 2 photos which for some reason I thought I already posted on here but I guess I never did. So here they are now…

Just found this on my hard-drive while looking at photos from a long time ago.

Quilt Blocks Galore

So I know I’ve been m.i.a on here for a bit. It’s partly because I’ve been doing a new teaching gig at work and partly because I’ve been taking a quilting class and learning how to make various quilts which shall go into a sampler quilt. Except, to make things much more difficult for myself, I’ve decided that I want to make it a queen-sized quilt to go on my bed, with a matching bedskirt and pillows and possible even make my own quilted headboard to match? Over ambitious much?

Well I’ve only gotten a few blocks done so far. I’m pretty excited to eventually make more and then start putting it all together. Here are my blocks so far:

Hey guys!

So I applied for a henna booth for a summer craft fair here in Castlegar on July 16th and guess what!? I got it! I’m so super excited and have already begun making things for my booth that I plan to sell in addition to doing henna tattoos for people. Here is a sneak preview slideshow of some candles and trinket/jewelry boxes:

Hope you like these, and if you’re in the area and want one of these, come down to the craft fair on July 16th (at the Heritage place across from the Airport from 10am-7pm). These will all be at promotional prices especially for the local community members that will be coming to check out the fair (as opposed to my regular etsy pricing) so all the more reason for you to come down! :)

If you’re not in the Castlegar and surrounding area, don’t fret! I do custom orders too for henna’ed items! Just send me a private message on etsy or write on my facebook page or something. Links to these are under the appropriate wordpress tabs above (where it says Home, Store, etc…)

Cheers and keep smilin’

Well winter is over (except in the Southern hemisphere but I doubt I’ll get many custom orders from there since the shipping will be too much for those peeps down south). This means that I’m probably not going to sell too many more yarn-made items. So now I’m putting that part of my shop on hold and focusing on the other things that add sparkle and zing to my life. HENNA!!! JEWELRY!!! And POLYMER CLAY!!! I’m also thinking of sewing a few cute clutch purses with magnetic closures (I already have the magnets I need for that) in the summer if I have time!!  If not then perhaps that’ll be a project for later in time. I’ve already begun listing some of my items and am really excited. Particularly about the henna. So excited that I couldn’t wait till the morning to go outdoors and seal my design with acrylic seal (supposed to do it in a well-ventilated area). My brother was having a sleepover with his friends and one of them kept coughing all night. I kinda feel bad because of the the acrylic seal fumes that were all over the basement yesterday. I’m pretty sure they caused the kid’s cough. Oh well, I guess that’s a lesson learned for me – Curb the enthusiasm!

Here’s the end product.  A set of 4 henna art pieces. Was it worth all that coughing? You be the judge…

On a similar note, I’m working on a henna ebook! Although it’s not very new news since I sort of pitched it on my facebook page a few months ago. It’s called Henna Fusions and has a mix of design patterns for henna on hands. I’m pretty excited about it because my designs mix elements from different cultures and henna styles, and I like to give a little modern twist to some of them. The result? A totally new and what I consider GORGEOUS style of henna, even if I do say so myself heehee. Anyway that would be ready some time in July and I think I might be able to get some popular henna artists to advertise it for me so that makes me extra happy! :D When you work hard at something, everything just seems to start falling into place doesn’t it? My etsy shop seems to be dying though since I haven’t had any sales recently (especially after alchemy closed down) which actually makes me think I’m not working hard enough (and I don’t feel like I am either – things are getting neglected due to all my other responsibilities in life right now – it’s probably also reflected in how long it’s been since my last blog post right here on wordpress lol – but I’m a positive thinker and know it’s not too late still to add a little bit more hard work and get my shop back on track… and pray that alchemy returns soon because I really am relying on that as my Plan A of building a bit more of a reputation for my shop).

Well those are my thoughts for the night. It’s getting late (or perhaps I should say early in my part of the world… something about having March break has turned me into a night owl) so I’m going to head to bed and try to get some sleep. I have a busy day tomorrow..errm…today thanks to all the stresses of painting, spring cleaning, spring fixing and having a life….I’m living at home these days and my mom has us all on the tips of our toes right now with all the house work and chores! I’d rant and complain about it except it actually adds a bit of drama to my life which I think really helps me not think about the things that are genuinely stressing me and worrying me these days lol :D Gotta love my family. We’re such quirks! lol. <3 And I have a friend coming over for math help tomorrow which I’m actually excited about because it breaks up my day a bit and we will be doing some manicures (and maybe watching a bollywood movie) afterwards! So excited!

Anyway that’s enough said for one night.  xoxo. Sama.

Hope you enjoy looking at these (I made the tree too!):

So the “Landshark” (inspired by the customized Little Big Planet character in the photo below) was completed last weekend and I mailed it to the buyer during the week (after having added a few last minute details). I’m soo excited about it being received on the other end. The customer was great to work with and she seemed really excited about the whole project too. Anyway here are a few photos:

Remember I also mentioned a hat set in one of my previous posts? Well I completed that about 2 weeks ago and they turned out much cuter than I had envisioned (it’s always hard to imagine what something will look like once it’s done). I figured that an update was in order…

And last but not least, I’m really proud of these pretty headbands that was also a custom order through etsy. I think they’re worth sharing and showing off :P The customer was inspired by a headband that was already listed on etsy in a “cinnamon” shade but he wanted different colors to gift to some special lady in his life (I have no idea if it was his girlfriend or wife or sister or mom, etc).

I think he LOVES it! Ain’t it cool or what? It makes me so happy to see him wearing it. I just love the fact that this hat gives him plenty of joy in wearing it. His name is embroidered on in Purple which he really likes too. Yay to having baby brothers! Even though at 14, he’s no baby anymore. In fact he could easily pass as a 17-19 year old. lol.
